The Arab Horse Society
Scottish Regional Group
Where It All Began...
The Scottish Regional Group of the Arab Horse Society provides many events for the Arab horse owner in Scotland. It was the first regional group of the Arab Horse Society to be formed in 1965 and was aimed at promoting the Arab horse by bringing together Arabian enthusiasts and providing events in Scotland.
The group worked very hard at persuading shows to run Arab classes and members also enjoyed many open days, stud visits, stallion shows and talks by top breeders. The first show in Scotland to hold classes for pure bred Arabs was the Carberry Tower Horse Show in 1967, and by 1969 the Scottish Group had 105 members, partly due to the efforts of people like Mrs Lilias MacVie who held open days at Purves Hall and gave so much help to young members. In 1973 the Group held their first show, called the Scottish Performance Show at Eden Hall in Kelso.

As we start the 21st century the Scottish Group is still providing shows and events for its members. There are two annual shows, one presently held at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre, Oatridge College and the other at Fountain Equestrian Centre, Aberdeen.
The Shows have several qualifiers and there are classes for Pure, Anglo and Part Bred Arabs for showing in hand and under saddle, and also dressage. Riders from all over Britain travel to compete at these shows – not only for the qualifiers but also because it has a reputation for being one of the friendliest shows in the Arab circuit. |
